Lately, every evening the cows are next to the fence when we come home. This particular evening, the herd was split into calves (about ten of them) and cows. As I approached the fence, the cows lined up in a single row, practically military style and stared at me.
There is something really comforting about cows. I think it’s their calm demeanor, how they just never seem to get too ruffled about anything.
Eliana approached the fence, addressed the smallest calf, “You’re the smallest little cow, aren’t you?! You must be the youngest. Yes, you are!”
Shortly thereafter, I found her with her sight words out by the fence. “I’m teaching them sight words, Mama!” Love my adorable, silly girl!
I really enjoy having cows for neighbors. Kevin was grilling over the weekend and said he is quite sure he heard the collective sigh of relief from the pasture, and a few moos of thanks that we were serving up chicken!
The cows in our neighboring pasture are beef cows, but when reading up on my cow facts, I found this humorous:
"It takes about 350 squirts for each gallon of milk from a cow."
