Clear, starry skies and fresh air... here we come!

After getting married last year, we decided the next logical step would be to buy a house.  Soon after Christmas we started looking for homes in the neighborhoods we had spent nearly four years drooling over, thinking that was where we would settle.  The more we looked, the more we felt a growing sense of dissatisfaction.

Having spent a great deal of time in the country when we were growing up, and the idea of being able to reach out your bedroom window and touch your neighbor's house was stiffling.  Slowly, we expanded our search and after spending several days driving out in the country, we went from looking at homes with one acre, to not even considering anything under four.

With the picture of our future clear , it was just a matter of finding "our spot".  A spot to raise our family, let our kids enjoy some of the experiences we had growing up.  Land to raise a garden, chickens, pigs, beef, maybe even a dairy cow... room to roam.

These past few months have been a long roller coaster ride, but it's finally set and the movers come on Sunday! We are remodeling the kitchen (pictures to come) and packing like crazy... and we are sooo looking forward to having a place for the kids to do real kid stuff... dig in the dirt, play with the animals, learn about hard work and chores.  The idea of raising "cookie cutter", addicted to TV and video games, materialistic, keep up with the Jones children is just frightful to me.

I'm not sure when I'll find the time as we have a list of projects long enough to last well into 2015, but I plan to document as much of this adventure as I possibly can.  Check back for updates!
